MSNBC Cult Documentary

MSNBC is working with a production company to create a documentary program about cults. They are currently looking for interview subjects. At least one of the filmmakers, Vasco Lucas Nunes, has already worked on the cult documentary, Join Us.

Here is what they are looking for:

“We are producers partnered with a major news outlet, and are seeking families or individuals who were formerly involved in a demanding groups/organizations to share their stories. We are interested in both positive and negative experiences, and hope to hear from those who have separated from the group within the last 9 months. If you would like additional information, please email clpdocumentary@gmail.com and describe your current situation. We are from the Production company Crazy Legs – based in Atlanta and LA – and for this specific documentary on cults we are partnered with MSNBC. Here is our site: http://crazylegsproductions.com Thank you.”

I corresponded over email with the consultant for this program, who is an ex-cult member herself and involved with the recovery community, and she said:

What the team is looking for at this point are stories of ex-members on the broad continuum of cult recovery. They are interested in people who have just left, and those who have begun their journey of making it without the group. There are plenty of the latter type of story, and not of the former for obvious reasons…people who just leave aren’t that easy to find because they are still, in many cases, isolated and haven’t connected with other ex-members or support groups.

Finally, I want to emphasize again that this team has been undergoing Cults 101 for the last six months, are very sensitive to the fragile nature of cult victims in recovery, and have a impeccable reputation.I have turned down many media companies in the past for being less, and this group passed my scrutiny with flying colors. I think you will find them sincere in their desire to show America the dangers ofthought reform and abusive groups.

It’s too bad they’re only interested in people who have been out 9 months or less… so many of us didn’t come to the realization of how hurt we were or how wrong the doctrine at TM was until much later than that.

I think they want both stories but the need to push the newer stories because many people get how hurt they are after the fact!
